Mexican Ministers Want Research to Drive Sustainable Aquaculture

Sustainability Politics +2 more

MEXICO Mexican fishery and aquaculture segments must have research as a driving force for meaningful and sustainable growth.

The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) has said better research and technological innovation are needed to match healthy demand from consumers.

Knowledge exchange and collaboration are to play a key part, said Pablo Arenas Fuentes, INAPESCA director general at a press conference.

He called for more publicising of studies and information sharing.

A further aim is to increase the value of the industry to businesses and fishing families.

The National Fisheries Institute and the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries announced they shared the objective of increasing high quality nutritious food.
