The National Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca) reported that outbreak was discovered on a Salmones Cupquelan S.A. farm in the Aysen region of Chile.

"This case was confirmed after the detection of the virus in check sampling conducted by inspectors of the Service" explained Marcela Lara, Deputy Director (S) Aquaculture Sernapesca.

The variant detected correspond to HPR 3 which was detected in the same area in October 2014.

Sernapesca will now keep watch on the farm and other farms in the infected area, sampling for the virus every two weeks.
