Kerala Launches Value Added Fish Food Chain

06 March 2015

India - In order to exploit the vast potential of its coastal and backwaters, the Kerala state government has launched the fish fast food chain under the brand name of Fish Maid.

The fish chain has been set up under the public private partnership (PPP) model and is being implemented by the Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) and the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology.

The chain will serve delicacies like Tuna Burger, Salmon sandwich, Fish Spring roll, Tuna Stuffed Egg, French Omelette with Tuna, Tuna pasta salad, Salmon green salad, Shrimp cream soup, Crab pasta soup, Prawns kebab, Crispy crescent, Kappa Fish Pattice, Shrimp rolls, Fish Nuggets and Fish Fingers.

KSCADC will open similar fish kiosks in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Thrissur.

After looking at the responses to the fish chain, the corporation will decide whether to expand the project to other states in the country.

Dr K Ampady, managing director of KSCADC said, while speaking on the fish chain, that the chain will help maximize our fish product in the market and will also help us reduce wastage.

The products are currently manufactured and processed at KSCADC’s Common Facility Centre, Nalapakam at Sakthikulangara, Kollam district. The Corporation is planning to open two more such production units at Azhikode in Thrissur and Azhikkal in Kannur.
