The new company, ME Certification Ltd (MEC), will focus on the provision of high quality assessment and certification services primarily for the fisheries and aquaculture sector, while MEP will continue to concentrate on its core activities of fisheries consultancy, management and development work.

Max Goulden, Managing Director of MEC, said: “We have become a significant contributor in recent years in the provision of high quality fishery assessment and certification work, and with demand anticipated to further increase in future years, the logical step is for us to create a new company focused on certification services. The separation of the two companies also allows us to ensure impartiality between the consultancy based work that MEP specialises in and the assessment work of MEC.

“We already have an excellent track record in this field and have developed an extensive network of clients around the world that are supported by our global fisheries specialists.”

MEC will continue to focus activities on the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Sustainable Fishing standard, the Aquaculture Stewardship standard (ASC), and MSC/ASC Chain of Custody standard. Other fishery and aquaculture standards will also come under the company’s certification services scope where there is demand.

Founded in 1977, MacAlister Elliott & Partners works across the marine and fisheries sectors in all parts of the world to provide specialised professional advice to clients, including funding agencies, NGOs, national governments, private companies and individuals.
