Perkinsus Olseni Outbreak Reported in Australian Oysters

AUSTRALIA - An outbreak of infection with perkinsus olseni has been reported on an Australian oyster farm.

The semi-closed production system in Westerport Bay, Victoria, reported one case in the 22 Flat oyster (Ostrea angasi) susceptible.

The outbreak was discovered as part of annual surveillance.

The oysters were in poor condition due to inadequate nutrition. Histopathology provided evidence of perkinsus infection.
