Viet Nam Aquaculture, Fisheries Output Growing

VIET NAM - Viet Nam's total seafood output, both from fisheries and aquaculture in April 2015, was estimated at 563.2 thousand MT, up 3.4 per cent year-on-year, including 425.1 thousand MT of fish and 43.8 thousand MT of shrimp.

Aquaculture output alone in April totaled 240.6 thousand MT, with 193.9 thousand MT of fish and 34.4 thousand MT of shrimp, reports VASEP.

Favorable weather, lower fuel prices and relatively stable price encouraged fishermen to expand businesses.

The output from fisheries in April was 322.6 thousand MT, representing a 6.4 per cent year-on-year increase. Approximately 312.6 thousand MT of marine fish was caught, reporting a 6.6 per cent growth from 2014.
