Print This Page Lifting of breeding ban on white shrimp sought
PHILIPPINES - The Philippine Shimp Industry Inc. yesterday called for the lifting of the ban on the breeding and culture of Litopeneaus vannamei or white shrimp, an exotic species believed to hasten the industry's goal to increase shimp production.PHILSHRIMP president Roberto Gatuslao told the DAILY STAR that representatives from all sectors of the shrimp industry across the country, including hatchery operators and feed millers, supported the resolution calling for the Department of Agriculture's approval for the culture of white shrimp in the country.
We are asking the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to facilitate the lifting of the ban, he said at the conclusion of the 5th National Shrimp Congress in Bacolod yesterday.
