Taking place in Grimsby from 5-9 September, the theme of the congress is ‘Upskilling for a Sustainable Future’ with a programme that includes talks and workshops centred on trade, training and sustainability.

Led by experts and academics from 12 countries across the world, this year marks the first time that the congress has come to the UK, following residencies in Canada, Australia and Morocco.

WSC has confirmed ‘the world’s greatest living explorer’, Sir Ranulph Fiennes, at its guest speaker. He will take to the stage at the congress’ gala dinner to address delegates and share some of his experiences in the field of exploration and the natural world.

Sir Ranulph will be joined by more than 96 speakers from across the globe, including individuals from Defra, Seafish, the University of Santa Barbara, CEFAS, NOAA, FAO, Marks & Spencer, WorldFish and Meridian Prime.

Alongside the main congress, other bodies are running training events to provide international delegates with access to additional insight and development during their stay in the UK. IAFI, who represent the world fish inspection community, will be putting on a series of workshops immediately before the main event, focusing on Asia/Australasia, Africa, and South America, covering issues such as trade import and export.

Paul Williams, chief executive at Seafish, the industry authority hosting this year’s congress said: “With Sir Ranulph’s attendance confirmed and all headline speakers announced, now is the time to purchase tickets for the World Seafood Congress.

“The quality of speakers and breadth of subjects covered in this year’s programme makes it one of the best WSC line-ups ever. Delegates will be able to develop their knowledge on themes that are crucial to the future of the industry, as well as voice their own opinions during our question and answer sessions.”
