Pangasius Farming Expands in Viet Nam

VIET NAM - Pangasius farming area in Viet Nam's Mekong Delta has expanded by 1,959 hectares (ha), up 0.21 per cent year on year as of 30 June.

The harvested area of 1,857ha yielded 516,140 MT , up 1.22 per cent year-on-year. Dong Thap, Ben Tre, An Giang and Can Tho provinces make up about 88 per cent of the total area and production in the delta, reports VASEP.

Through May 2015, pangasius exports reached over US$616 million, down 9.6 per cent year-on-year.

The US accounted for 21.8 per cent of total pangasius exports from Vietnam with the value of $134.6 million, up 6.4 per cent year on year.

The EU spent $118.95 million, down 15.6 per cent year on year, accounted for 19.3 per cent of total pangasius exports from Viet Nam. ASEAN, China and Canada retained stable growth rates.
