The Plan was launched by Minister for Industry and Science, Ian Macfarlane, and focuses on a ten year plan to help maximise marine industries which make up the blue economy, including fisheries and aquaculture.
“Australia’s fisheries are among the best managed in the world and are underpinned by the best available science,” Senator Colbeck said.
“This Government wants to ensure our fisheries remain at the leading edge in terms of science, innovation and sustainability.
“The Plan outlines the science needed to provide the knowledge, technology and innovation that will grow a sustainable blue economy into the future – and fisheries are recognised as a key part of this.
“Our fisheries industries already make a significant contribution to the national economy and the Plan recognises that an even greater contribution is possible through further innovation and growth.”
The Government will consider the report as we continue to develop a comprehensive all-of-Government science strategy.
