One Week to Go Until World Seafood Congress

01 September 2015

UK - With only one week to go until its launch, the World Seafood Congress (WSC) has confirmed that a limited number of additional tickets have been released for the event.

To be held at the Grimsby Institute from 5-9 September, the theme of the congress is ‘Upskilling for a Sustainable Future’, and the programme includes talks and workshops led by 96 speakers from across the globe, including individuals from Defra, Seafish, FAO and Young’s.

Complementing the core programme, a number of evening events will allow delegates to meet and network with industry peers from almost 50 different countries.

On Monday evening, the Seafood Fayre will showcase the finest local produce with suppliers including Young’s, The Saucy Fish Co., Chapman’s Fishcakes, Zest Deli, Tom Wood Beers and Sciolti Chocolates.

The Gala dinner on Tuesday evening will feature renowned explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes as guest speaker, who will share anecdotes from his lifetime adventures. His speech will follow a meal cooked by students from University College Birmingham, winners of the 2015 UK Young Seafood Chef of the Year competition.

Other fringe events taking place to enhance delegates’ stay include:

  • VIP welcome evening at Cleethorpes Pier, including a meet and greet with local dignitaries and a chance to try out classic Lincolnshire food dishes
  • Free entry into Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre during the launch weekend
  • Guided tours of Grimsby Fish Market

Paul Williams, Chief Executive at Seafish, the industry authority hosting this year’s congress, said: “The opportunities at WSC 2015 are vast and the range of activities available have been selected to allow our delegates to make the most of their time in Grimsby.

“Attendees will be able to increase their industry knowledge and join the debate on a range of important issues, as well as having the opportunity to hear from Sir Ranulph - the world’s greatest living explorer. We’d encourage those interested to purchase their tickets now before it’s too late.”
