In 2010 the market was opened for the export of fishmeal from Mexico to China. The initial expectation was to export 120,000 tonnes, but this figure has almost doubled in five years.
The state of Sonora is the largest exporter of fishmeal, with a volume of 213,078 tonness, while Sinaloa has sold a total of 834,000 tons.
In 2015, the National Health Service, Food Safety and Quality (SENASICA) issued 141 Certificates of Aquaculture Health for marketing different types of flour, among which are: dried steamed flour antioxidant, Mexican red sardine meal flour, 100 percent Mexican flour, thread herring meal, fish meal and flour mackerel, among others.
