Weekly Overview: New Toolbox to Help Start-Up Aquaculture Businesses

ANALYSIS - The Centre for Fisheries, Environment and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) has developed a new on-line regulatory toolbox to support new start-up aquaculture businesses in England.

The toolbox gives users access to all the information required to set up a farm from scratch.

Cefas aquaculture development officer Keith Jeffery said: “Factors such as concerns about food and nutritional security, a growing population and increasing demand for healthy products are all drivers in increasing production of farmed seafood. This project aims to simplify and streamline the start-up procedure for businesses in England, and is a useful step towards supporting the development of the aquaculture industry.”

In other news, Friend of the Sea has introduced a new standard for the certification of seaweed from sustainable harvesting and farming.

Aquaculture UK Update

On 25 - 26 May 2016, 5m Publishing and TheFishSite are hosting Aquaculture UK, the UK's largest aquaculture exhibition and conference.

Shuttle Bus Timetable Available

Visitors travelling to the show via Inverness Airport will be able to make use of the free shuttle bus service running between the airport and Aviemore.

The shuttle bus runs at various times throughout the day on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Journey time is roughly 50 minutes.
