Six tailored sessions looked at The 3 Ms – ‘Monitoring, Management and Mitigation’ through on the ground farming activities. This was then followed by a roundup of research initiatives across Scotland, and opportunities to discuss challenges affecting the industry.

Around 100 specialists working in the area of fish health attended, including producers, equipment manufacturers, vets, feed companies, pharmaceutical companies and researchers.

Presentations were heard from industry representatives and support services who showcased the latest knowledge and management options available to farmers. Delegates also heard how Ireland is evolving its management strategies to address fish health challenges.

Speaking before the event, Dr Iain Berrill, SSPO Research and Data Manager, said: “This event continues our programme of industry focused, technical workshops and we are really encouraged by the numbers signed up to attend.

“There is a lot of really important work going on out there to manage and enhance gill health and we are keen to promote this while helping to generate discussion between industry representatives through knowledge exchange.

“Each topic is followed by a questions and answers session to stimulate discussion across the group, which may even lead to potential new research opportunities that could bring significant benefits to the Scottish industry in the long term.”
