Seafish Chief Executive Looks Ahead to Humber Seafood Summit

23 June 2016

UK - Seafish’s Chief Executive Marcus Coleman has outlined the benefits of attending the 2016 Humber Seafood Summit as key details of the event are announced.

Registration is now available for the major event, which is organised by Seafish for the benefit of seafood industry stakeholders from the Humber area, around the UK and globally.

Mr Coleman, who will be attending the summit for the first time, said: “The Humber Seafood Summit is a fantastic event enabling organisations in the seafood industry to come together, share views and explore the issues and opportunities facing the supply chain.

“It is important that the seafood industry works together in a collaborative and forward-looking way if it is to encourage more people to eat more fish more often. Events like the Humber Seafood Summit are a perfect format for that work to take place.

“It will be my first opportunity to attend and I am looking forward to hearing from the range of experts we have speaking at the event and getting the opportunity to link up with our stakeholders.”

Mr Coleman became Chief Executive at Seafish in January and will open the summit as well as chair a number of the discussions.

The summit draws interest from key people in the importers and distributors, processors, foodservice and retail sectors of the UK seafood industry and brings together a panel of respected industry and national government speakers and delegates from the UK and further afield.

The three key themes for the Humber Seafood Summit are the seafood consumer, aquaculture and trade. Discussions will include consumer trends, aquaculture developments, seafood trade, supply chain development, product integrity, reputation and global outlooks.

The Humber region boasts one of the largest concentrations of seafood processing facilities in Europe with over 8,000 people employed in the sector. All the major UK seafood companies and most retailers are supplied with seafood from companies based in the Humber.

And Mr Coleman believes the strength of the industry in the area makes the Humber the perfect location for the summit.

Mr Coleman added: “The scale and diversity of seafood processing operations in the Humberside and Grimsby area is internationally significant. The area offers significant expertise that will clearly be of benefit to organisations across the UK and around the world and the Humber Seafood Summit is an excellent opportunity to share knowledge and make valuable connections.“

Registration is now available to attend the summit. A Seafood Fayre evening networking event will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at The Humber Royal, Grimsby, with the Humber Seafood Summit taking place on Wednesday, September 28 between 8.30am and 4pm at The Pier, Cleethorpes.

Book your registration for the event by contacting Julie Snowden at Seafish by emailing or phone 07876035736.
