Print This Page Mekong Delta breeds Ho fish
VIETNAM - Scientists at the HCM City-based Research Institute for Aquaculture No 2 have successfully raised rare Ho fish (giant barb) in an effort to bring the nearly extinct Mekong River Delta species back to prominence, said local authorities.Pham Van Khanh, director of the institute’s Centre for Southern Fresh Water species in the Mekong Delta’s Cai Be District, Tien Giang Province, is in charge of the project reproducing and raising Ho fish in the region back to healthy numbers.
The Ho fish lives mainly in the lower Mekong basin including Viet Nam and Cambodia, but its population has sharply declined due to over-fishing.
