Polish Fish Processor to Open New Plant

24 January 2017

POLAND - Polish fish processor BG Production sp. z o.o. has unveiled plans to launch a new processing facility in the Białogard Investment Park (BIP), in the country’s north-western part. The plant will process salmon and cod, and it will be fitted with a floorspace of about 5,000 square metres.

Under the plan, the investment is to be launched this year, and BG Production will create about 400 new jobs at the facility, the BIP said in a statement. The amount of the project was not disclosed by the company.

“We chose Białogard because it is the most dynamically developing city in our region,” said Daniel Pilewski, the general director and co-owner of BG Production. “We will launch our processing activities in Białogard in August 2017, but we decided to start the recruitment process in the region now.”

In the first five years of its activities in Białogad, the company will lease the facility from the BIP which is part of a Polish special economic zone. In the sixth year, BG Production is to purchase the facility from the BIP.

Poland’s special economic zones will remain operational until at least 2026. Locating investments in the zones allows companies to obtain preferential tax treatment and acquire state support for their projects. In return, investors are required to declare the minimum amount of jobs they plan to create at their designed factories, and maintain them for a determined number of years.

BG Production has been active in the country’s fish processing industry since 2010, and it operates a plant in Wieniotowo, less than 35 km from Białogard. Both municipalities are located in close proximity of Poland’s Baltic Sea shore.

The company was set up by a group of Polish and Danish businessmen, and it is currently headed by Jon Gunnarsson, its chief executive.
