Fishing News Awards Shortlist Revealed

Sustainability +1 more

UK - The UKs only fishing industry awards programme has revealed its eagerly anticipated shortlist, with nominations in the annual Fishing News Awards heading to businesses and individuals from across the UK.

Fishermen, fishing ports, fish restaurants, retailers, and processors are set to be honoured at the event, to be held in Aberdeen on 25 May. The awards are a celebration of the hard work and dedication of those working in the fishing industry, which continues to be one of the most dangerous professions in the country.

Now the organisers of the awards are asking for the public to review the shortlist for each category and to cast their votes ahead of the Awards ceremony in May, which will be hosted by renowned comedian Rory Bremner.

Following on from last year’s programme, which acted as a relaunch after an absence of several years, interest in the awards has grown significantly, with the number of nominations almost trebling.

Pat Eggington, Publisher of Fishing News, said: “The strength of the nominations we’ve received this year has been impressive, and it’s great to see such a geographical spread.

“These people work tirelessly to provide the UK and Ireland with the highest quality fresh seafood. The Awards celebrate the determination and professionalism shown by everyone involved in the fishing industry, and highlight how vital a role is played by so few.”

Fishing remains one of the UK’s most challenging occupations, with almost 12,000 fishermen still setting out to catch the 756,000 tonnes of seafood landed by British vessels each year.
