Chance to sign up for salmon farm tours

Salmonids

Members of the public are being encouraged to sign up for tours of salmon farms which are being offered by members of the BC Salmon Farmers Association (BCSFA) this summer.

This year’s public tour offerings will include dates in June, July and August. Tour participants will have the opportunity to visit a farm and learn more about how our vibrant industry works, all the while enjoying a boat ride across the Johnstone Strait – taking in the beautiful scenery and the chance to see marine wildlife.

In celebrating Seafood Month in June, the BCSFA will be hosting two tours as part of the BC Shellfish & Seafood Festival – June 15th and 17th – along with one final tour on June 29th. In addition, BCSFA will run three other tours this summer – July 12th, July 19th and August 16th. All scheduled tours depart from Campbell River at 8:30am and last about six hours.

“We’re excited to open up our expanded tour program to local and international participants during the next few months,” said Jeremy Dunn, Executive Director, BC Salmon Farmers Association. “Not only will participants get a valuable inside look into sustainable salmon farming operations in BC, but they will also have the opportunity to connect with farmers who take pride in growing the world's best fish, and they will learn firsthand how our farmers are helping to meet the growing demand for healthy food.”

Space is limited to 19 people for each tour. The cost is $60, which includes a delicious lunch served on the farm. Payments are processed online through the Vancouver Island Visitor Centre, or at 1-855-4002882. Due to limited space on each tour, advance booking is required.
