Norwegian seafood hits historic export record
NORWAY - Exports of seafood totalled NOK 4 billion in October, the highest Norwegian seafood export figures ever registered in a single month, according to fresh figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council. Exports were NOK 50 million higher than for the same month last year.Exports of seafood for the year to date total NOK 28.4 billion, an increase of NOK 3.3 billion compared to the same period last year. This is also a record for the January-October period.
Salmon is the most important product, with an export value of NOK 13.7 billion for the year to date. This is an increase of no less than NOK 3.3 billion compared to the same period last year. In October, exports totalled NOK 1.6 billion, an increase of NOK 291 million or 23 per cent compared to October 2005.
Also in October, exports of stockfish totalled NOK 437 million, an increase of NOK 116 million or 36 per cent compared to October 2005. Exports of salted fish increased by NOK 9 million in October. The increase was attributable to salted fillets, whereas salted whole fish showed a slight decrease.
