Print This Page Philippine Fishery sector posts highest growth
PHILIPPINES - The country's fishery sub-sector posted the biggest growth in agriculture during the first three quarters this year, growing by 7.54 percent due to the 13.4 percent output hike of aquaculture and the 9.91 percent expansion in municipal fisheries, data of the Bureau of Agricultural Statistics show.Fishery grossed P121.8 billion; livestock, P113 billion; and poultry, P75.7 billion. The crops sub-sector has recovered from last year's negative performance to generate 5.76 percent in production during the first three quarters, with palay output rising by 9.69 percent, and corn, 15.71 percent.
Yields in banana, sugarcane, pineapple. coconut, cassava and rubber also grew during the period, helping the crops subsector post higher gross returns of P330.4 billion at current prices, or 15.54 percent above last year's figures.
