Print This Page Vietnam catfish exports go through the roof
VIET NAM - The Vietnamese Ministry of Fisheries said Thursday that catfish exports would more than double to a record US$661 million this year. |
Overall seafood exports could reach $3.2 billion, it said.
The demand for catfish has gone up sharply in more than 65 countries and territories, with the EU, Russia, ASEAN, and the US being the top importers.
The EU alone accounts for almost half of the total exports. Though Russia only buys 11.2 percent of Vietnam’s catfish exports, its imports have shot up by 15 times since 2002.
The US was earlier the top importer but, after the dumping case a few years ago, now only accounts for 9.8 percent.
