Agri ministry, US university in aquaculture research pact
GUYANA - The Ministry of Agriculture through its Department of Fisheries has signed an agreement with the University of Arizona to enhance the knowledge of production of fish through aquaculture.The two entities recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding for joint participation in a "Title XII Collaborative Research Support Programme (CRSP) in Aquaculture and Fisheries funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and participating institutions."
Minister of Agriculture Robert Persaud made this announcement at a press conference in the ministry's boardroom last Monday.
According to the MOU the University of Arizona has entered into a sub-contractual agreement with the Oregon State University (OSU), the management entity for the CRSP. The university will implement and operate the CRSP project with the fisheries department.
The MOU said "the parties recognise the mutual benefits to be derived from jointly participating in the CRSP as a means of expanding and improving the knowledge, understanding, opportunities and capabilities of fishery production through aquaculture…."
