Vietnam wants Russia to delay aquaculture inspection

VIETNAM - The National Fisheries Quality and Veterinary Directorate (Nafiqaved) has requested Russian authorities to delay their plan to inspect Vietnam’s aquaculture establishments until March.

Russian authorities will inspect the aquaculture establishments

The inspection has been scheduled to take place in January 2007, but Nafiqaved has asked the Russia’s Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service (VPSS) to take the inspection tour in March. Nafiqaved has said that it would be too busy to receive foreign delegations which come to learn about and examine the aquaculture in Vietnam, from now until the end of February. In addition, the second half of February will be the Tet holiday.

The public letter has been sent by Nafiqaved to VPSS. Prior to that, Nafiqaved had received the letter from the Russian Embassy in Vietnam, informing the diplomatic note of VPSS about the fact that Russia will send a delegation to inspect the aquaculture and seafood processing in Vietnam in January.

The diplomatic note wrote that VPSS will send an inspection delegation to Vietnam to learn about the quality control over seafood products, collect information about animal epidemics, and examine the aquaculture and seafood processing establishments, which have product exporters to Russia. The information to be collected will serve as the basis for VPSS to list the names of enterprises eligible to export products to Russia.

Nafiqaved said that it has had work out a schedule with the inspection delegation from the EU’s directorate on health and consumers protection, which comes under the framework of the programme on controlling prohibited substance residues in farmed seafood. The agency will have to work with the delegation from the Cambodian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, which comes to learn about experiences on fisheries quality control on February 4-10. Besides, Nafiquaved will have to work with the officials from the French Food Safety Agency, who come to show experiences on control the veterinary drugs used in aquaculture.
