Indian Govt. seeks Japan's help to double fish output

BHUBANESWAR, INDIA - The Government has sought assistance from the Japan Government for development of fisheries sector in the State.

The action plan for development of the sector includes creation of common facilities, individual support to marine fishermen, capacity building and skill upgradation of stake holders and cluster development of brackish water farming.

The Government has also initiated several steps for doubling of fish production in the State. District and State-level action plans have been prepared for doubling of fish production. Draft amendment has also been proposed in the state reservoir fishery policy.

Reservoir fishery development programme has already been taken up in KBK districts under the Revised Long Term Action Plan (RLTAP). The implementation of the programme, appreciated by the special rapporteur of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), has opened up employment opportunities in the KBK districts for the youths.

The Collectors have been requested to include fisheries development in labour-oriented programmes including the backward region grants fund (BRGF), Sampoorna Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY), Swarnajayanti Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY) and Rashtriya Sama Vikas Yojana (RSVY).
