Print This Page Hindustan Lever Ltd. to exit from marine business
INDIA - The decision of Hindustan Lever Ltd (HLL) to exit from the marine sector puts at stake nearly Rs 250 crore worth of export business of value-added products from surmi, crabs, fish fillet, shrimps, squid and octopus.According to the industry, besides the unit in Chorwad in Gujarat which is into production, of like surmi crabsticks, crabclaws, crab chunks and associated products, the unit in Kuthiathode in Kerala is into production of fish fillet, squids, crabs and octopus. The third unit in Aroor also in Kerala produces salad shrimps, fish fillets and allied products.
All the units are export-oriented and market sources said that the company had succeeded in creating a brand and also made a major foray into value-addition which was the need for the industry. The two Kerala units started nearly five years ago account for nearly one-third of the company’s exports
