Print This Page Aquaculturists demand farming status to their trade
INDIA - A two-day Aqua Expo Orissa 2007 to create a knowledge-base in terms of self-employment, revenue and export possibilities besides seeking the attention of the policy makers and expert advices in resolving technical, administrative and infrastructural problems, was inaugurated by Fisheries Minister Golak Bihari Naik here on Thursday.While various issues were discussed Revenue Minister Manmohan Samal, besides assuring the farmers of government cooperation also said that the State would soon accord the status of aquaculture at par with agriculture and take up the financing projects with the banks and financial institutions (FIs).
He also assured for considering the land allotment policy for leasing out government land (for the culture) as a step to employ the rural un employed youths adding the importance of agriculture and aquaculture is the call for day.
In his welcome address, chairman of the expo PR Patnaik explained the problems faced by the exporters due to biotic rejection, besides urging the farmers to desist from same. He also called for improving management practices to get more profits.
Naik besides assuring all feasible supports from his Ministry too called upon the farmers to adhere to adequate management practices especially while stocking of seeds.
