Japan aids in development of Guyanan aquaculture sector

The ministry, said the objective of the visit is to formulate a master plan on the sustainable use of fisheries resources for coastal community development in the Caribbean. The discussions focused on the development and management of the large pelagic species in Guyana and support for the country's aquaculture development expansion, the release said.

The Japan team includes Assistant Director of the Overseas Fisheries Cooperation, Fisheries Agency of Japan, Shingo Ota, the JICA's Senior Assistant to the Director General on Rural Development Mori Takashi, and it's Programme Officer, Latin America and the Caribbean Isa Kohei.

The minister said Guyana already has a base to develop the sector and with Japanese assistance the region as a whole can benefit.

The meeting was hosted at the minister's office.
