Fish farms deadlock - Altinkum Bay, Turkey
TURKEY - In the latest twist to the fish farms off Altinkum Bay, it has been announced that Aydin Provincial Council has passed the plans. |
However, Aydin’s Governor Mustafa Malay said the plans would never get beyond the drawing board as he would refuse permission outright and would not let them be built.
The contradictory messages from the top authority in the district has left Didim people wandering if they will still be built.
There has been a concerted campaign by residents to get the fish farm decisions revoked.
Mr Malay also said this week that he would not be extending permission for the fish farms at Akbük when they were due for renewal in 2008.
He said that he hoped that Akbuk residents would not have to put up with the fish farms after that date as he hoped they would be moved elsewhere.
