Print This Page Port Mouton Bay locals protest plans for fish farm expansion
CANADA - They're ready to fight on land and sea.Friends of Port Mouton Bay are protesting on South West Port Mouton Beach, Queens Co., today, with at least 20 of the town's lobster fishermen out in their boats. They're objecting to a proposed application for a 28-hectare fish farm nearby.
"We're not opposed to marine aquaculture or fin-fish farming on the whole global issue," Blair Davis said. "What we are opposed to is the placement of this site in Port Mouton Bay. We feel it's the wrong site for a fish farm of this size."
Aqua Fish Farms Ltd., a New Brunswick-based company, has applied for an expansion to its current salmon-growing site in Port Mouton Bay.
