Uganda: Fish Farmers Get Shs10 Million

UGANDA - The Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries has given Shs10 million to fish farmers in Yumbe district.

A letter dated February 8 to the chief administrative officer Yumbe district, and signed by the ministry's permanent secretary Gabindadde Musoke said the money is part of support from the African Development Bank.

It will be used to improve aquaculture establishments of selected fish farmers and farmer groups.

The letter said farms of the beneficiaries will be used as training and demonstration sites for other intending fish farmers. Each farmer or farmer group will receive Shs1 million.

"The support [money] will be used on civil industry such as pond maintenance, drainage works, storage for feeds and chemical hatchery systems and other fish handling facilities," the letter read in part.
