Model fish markets to spread fins in Haryana

INDIA - to give boost to aquaculture in the state, the Haryana Fishery Department will set-up model fish markets in Bahadurgarh and Gurgaon districts of Haryana.

The project cost of these markets, that will be set up with the assistance of Ministry of Animal Husbandry and Fishery, Government of India, will be approximately Rs 1 crore.

“We want to exploit the benefit of proximity to Delhi, which has a huge market of non-vegetarians. We want to cater to this market. It is the brain child of our ministers, who went to Thailand and China and brought home the high-tech methodology of marketing the fish,” said Financial Commissioner and Principal Secretary of fishery department, Sameer Mathur.

He said the project of model markets is being executed and designed by the Haryana Agriculture Marketing Board.

“The model markets would be exclusive areas for marketing of fresh-water fish in hygienic conditions. The fish would be stored in fresh running water, for which an adequate flow of water supply would be made available. Besides, proper disposal facilities and digital system of weights and measures would also be made available,” said Mathur.
