INDIA - Indian seafood exporters to the US, who are burdened by anti-dumping duties and the strengthening rupee, should opt for exports of breaded or fresh shrimps, says Seafood Exporters Association of India (SEAI).

Breaded shrimps, shrimps in prepared meals and fresh shrimps are outside the scope of action initiated by the US Court of International Trade.

However, Anwar Hashim, president of Kerala chapter of SEAI said that China and Thailand are exporting substantial quantity of breaded shrimps and prawns to the US market. “Indian exporters should opt for the value-added market or scout emerging markets.”

Despite the barriers to import, the US consumption of shrimps has not declined and Thailand remains the main supplier. The second biggest supplier is China followed by Indonesia.
