Print This Page 10,000 youths achieve economic self-reliance by fish farming
BANGLADESH - More than 10,000 unemployed, educated youngsters have achieved economic self-reliance through fish farming during the past couple of years, says Bangladesh officials.The youths, after receiving short and long-term training on pisciculture from the local Youth Development and Fishery departments, have started fish farming and are considering its economic aspect.
Bangladesh Krishi Bank (BKB) and other commercial banks are providing loans for this profitable business. The Youth Development and Fishery departments are also providing short-term loans to the young people to encourage them to set up fish farms.
There are about 5000 in th Narsingdi district and the fish farmers are earning about Tk 500 million (50 crore) a year.
