15 June 2007

UK - Salmon farming generates more than £197m a year for Scottish businesses, a new survey of producers has claimed. The findings reveal that businesses in the Highlands and Islands are the most significant beneficiaries, netting around £149m per annum.

Other Scottish regions benefit from a further £48m boost, the rest of the UK gains £50m and overseas £5m, according to the Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation (SSPO) survey.

The total annual expenditure on suppliers of goods and services tops £253m, the SSPO said.
