Conservation group takes responsibility for provincial river monitoring
CANADA - The Tusket River Chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada has been appointed to organise the revamped Nova Scotia Provincial River Watch Program.The group will organise, promote and run the program for the Province's Inland Fisheries Advisory Committee. It will be helped by other Trout Unlimited Canada Chapters and members in Nova Scotia, primarily the Cumberland County River Enhancement Association Trout Unlimited Canada chapter.
Staff from the NS Department of Inland Fisheries, members of The Tusket River Chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada, and several other interested groups attended a meeting in Bridgewater last week when the appointment was made. At meeting the river watch program was formally handed over to the Tusket River Chapter.
Bill Curry, president of the chapter and River Watch coordinator also announced funding from Trout Unlimited Canada to help support the program as it starts up with the new organisers in Nova Scotia.
River Watch is a voluntary fisheries monitoring program re-established jointly by the Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, through the Inland Fisheries Advisory Committee, and the Tusket River Chapter of Trout Unlimited Canada, with funding support from Trout Unlimited Canada.
