India: Haryana govt promotes pisciculture
22 June 2007INDIA - To provide marketing facilities to fish farmers in Haryana, the state government will set up new fish mandies on foreign pattern at Bahadurgarh and Gurgaon.
This was stated by the Haryana fisheries Deputy Director Dharam Singh Bharti while talking to media persons here today.
He said modern mandis had already been set up at Yamunanagar, Panipat and Faridabad.
A plan to modernise fish seed farms was also being implemented so that fish farmers could increase per acre production, he added.
The farmers were being given training for fish farming through Poly culture and Mono culture methods, which were based on new techniques.
Under poly culture, besides Jhinga farming, the stress was on increasing production of Katla and Rahu variety fish whereas under Monoculture only Jhinga fish production was encouraged.
