Deat hosts round table on SA's marine aquaculture policy
SOUTH AFRICA - The Department of Environmental Affairs and Tourism (Deat) will this week host a national stakeholder round table in Port Alfred, in the Eastern Cape, to discuss a revised draft marine aquaculture policy, before gazetting the document.The round table follows the publishing of the second draft of a marine aquaculture policy for a further 30-day public comment period from June 29 to July 31.
The national roundtable would provide an opportunity for further engagement between the department and stakeholders towards the finalisation of the marine aquaculture policy, the Department said in a statement.
Further, the round table would also provide an opportunity for the department to initiate discussions on strategies that would form the basis of the marine aquaculture policy implementation plan to be drafted and finalised once the policy was approved.
The stakeholders participating at the round table include legislators, government departments, the aquaculture and fishing industry, fishing communities, labour representatives, nongovernmental organisations, research, and academic institutions.
