Breach reports now own line
UK - Scottish Salmon Producers' Organisation (SSPO) is now reporting breaches of containment on its website.
Representing some 95 per cent of the tonnage of Scottish farmed salmon production, breaches of containment, where fish are known to have escaped will now be reported on a monthly basis.
SSPO says that effective containment is a priority for the salmon farming industry as breaches of containment represent a significant commercial losses.
The salmon farming industry collaborates with wild fish interests and the Scottish Executive through forums, such as the Tri-Partite Working Group, to ensure continued improvements to production systems aimed at minimising this type of problem.
The joint inititaive also aim to promote better working relationships in the interests of long-term sustainable salmon farming and wild salmon fisheries.
Details of containment breaches, the locations and the SSPO members involved up until the end of March are recorded online - click here. Events for April, May and June will appear shortly.
