VIET NAM - Returning from the battle for Hue in 1975 to his hometown of Khanh Hoa, soldier Tran Anh Kiet started a fish breeding business that has now expanded into the Central Highlands to provide hundreds of jobs for locals. |
| The Ayun Ha Reservoir in Gia Lai Province is now under the management of Tran Anh Kiet, who has been successful in developing an aquaculture business in the region. He plans to launch a fish cannery at the reservoir. |
After narrowly avoiding bankruptcy and struggling with corruption among some officials in the central coast province of Khanh Hoa, Kiet now manages the 2,400ha Ayun Ha Reservoir in the Central Highlands’ Gia Lai Province.
In 1996, Kiet officially became the manager of the reservoir, which now provides between 300 to 400 tonnes of fish a year and an annual revenue of more than VND1.5 billion (US$93,800).
The reservoir also provides full-time jobs for dozens of locals who earns VND2 million a month on average as well as providing part-time work for more than 200 people, half of whom are from ethnic minorities.
