Seafood market pace yields new Dubai expo

DUBAI - Dubai's rapidly expanding seafood market, which topped AED 735 million in 2006, has given rise to the Middle Easts first exhibition dedicated to the seafood industry.

The Dubai International Seafood Expo will run from October 29-31, 2007 and provide a powerful platform for local and international companies dealing in seafood, seafood products and related equipment and services.

According to organisers, Orange Fairs and Events, this groundbreaking three-day show, will enable trade visitors to keep abreast of the latest seafood products from across the globe as well as developments in technology, equipment and services geared for the industry.

Close to 70 international exhibitors from 14 countries, including six local companies, will highlight seafood products, technology and services as well as furnishings, fittings, cold storage systems, packaging and equipment designed for the industry. It alspo offers the opportunity for local and international manufacturers, traders, importers and exporters to source global supplies of seafood and derived products, and establish key networks into Dubai’s multi-million dollar seafood industry.

Until now, there has been no dedicated exhibition and sourcing event for manufacturers and traders in Dubai’s seafood industry, said Raees Ahmed, Director, Orange Fairs & Events.
"The huge demand in seafood and seafood products has consequently created tremendous prospects for manufacturers and suppliers of related technology, equipment and services across the world. Realising these potentials and the lack of a definitive platform, we decided to launch Dubai International Seafood Expo 2007,” he added.

In 2006, the value of Dubai’s seafood market soared and seafood imports reached 55,050 tons. Exports reached 10,489 tons with a total market value of AED 187 million. The burgeoning hospitality and food service industries are major consumers, and demand is expected to surge on account of the expected increase in the number of hotels and leisure developments across the region. Dubai’s highly developed air and sea freight services also make it a strategic location for re-processing and re-export of seafood products across the region - the state is a primary gateway to other markets in the Middle East.

“Dubai’s burgeoning economy and a population with high disposable income have made it a viable target for countries producing seafood and related products. The booming hospitality and food service industries as well as a growing expatriate population are significant markets for the seafood industry,” added Ahmed.
