Thai shrimp exports to Japan look bright

BANGKOK - Exports of Thai shrimp products to Japan are expected to increase by Bt5-6 billion by the end of this year after winning recognition in both quality and standard among consumers in a seafood and technology exhibition in Japan, according to a senior official of the Fisheries Department.

Niwat Sutheemeechaikul, department deputy director-general, said his agency successful in taking Thai producers and exporters of fisheries products to join the 9th Japan International Seafood & Technology Expo July 18-20.

The expo served as a venue where Japanese importers had an opportunity to hold business negotiations with Thai exporters.

He said a lot of Japanese importers are attracted to Thai frozen and processed shrimp products.

At the same time, the trade in marine products between Japan and China and Vietnam had experienced difficulties in terms of food hygiene because products imported from both countries were found contaminated with antibiotics.
