Shrimp workshop receives thumbs-up

Chief Biotechnologist of Sabah's number one shrimp operator, Global Satria Sdn Bhd, said Sabah's shrimp farms especially in Tawau are not as fortunate as other farms sharing coastlines.
Speaking to The Brunei Times on the sideline of the International Workshop on Shrimp Health, yesterday, Muhammad Sagaf Abu Bakar said, shrimp operators in Tawau always fear outbreaks, as viruses are often found from the industrial waste that flow into the coastlines.
The shrimp industry is extremely prone to viruses even from birds who are carriers of viruses in their droppings, he added.
"Brunei has an advantage, as a result of its clean waters and environment, free from the effects of industrial waste," said the chief biotechnologist.
He went on to say that Brunei is also fortunate to have the expertise and experienced consultancy from US-based IAI, a company that introduces safe techniques in shrimp farming.
