Print This Page Gentle pump reduce mortality factors with Cod
NORWAY - A new pump to handle cod could help producers reduce stock stress and mortality rates of farmed cod.
Launched at Aqua Nor, the development, from Sterner Fish Tech, offers gentler handling and transport of this ‘delicate’ species and in practice has been shown to curb mortality rates, says the manufactures. Observations of fish transported using the pump show reduced internal and external damage.
“We have already installed a number of facilities and many of them for the transport of cod. You can avoid high mortality and the fish can be moved relatively long distances with this equipment. Its design enables gentle handling,” said Petter Andreassen, Aqua Tech General Manager.
