US aquaculture center could receive funding
16 August 2007US - The National Center for Cool and Cold Water could receive $7.5 million, pending the passage of the fiscal year 2008 Senate Agriculture Appropriations bill.

The funding would help support advanced programs at the fish research center in Leetown.
The funding was proposed by U.S. Sen. Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., who in the past has added more than $15.9 million to previous appropriations bills for the construction of the aquaculture.
The facility houses the nation’s most advanced research programs pertaining to the efficient raising and harvesting of cool and cold water fish, such as arctic char and rainbow trout. Its location in the Eastern Panhandle is advantageous because this area is rich in cool and cold water streams, as well as natural springs.
