Govt to set up 50 fish seed hatcheries
INDIA - The State Government will set up 10 poultry and 50 fish seed hatcheries in the State in two years to encourage self-employment through pisciculture and poultry farming.While the Fisheries and Animal Resources Department will set up the hatcheries, the Panchayati Raj Department will provide fund under Swarna Jayanti Gram Swarajgar Yojana (SGSY) for infrastructure development.
A meeting on SGSY infrastructure fund chaired by Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy here on Tuesday decided that Rs 40 crore will be spent on development of hatcheries.
Of the 58 sub-divisions in the State, eight have poultry hatcheries. The remaining 50 districts will have one hatchery each in the next two years. The SGSY fund provided by the Centre will be utilised for the purpose, Panchayati Raj Secretary R N Das said.
Self-help groups engaged in poultry farming will be provided one day old chicks from the hatcheries at cost.
