Mussel pest threatens aquaculture

CANADA - An invasive species that's eating into the profits of Prince Edward Island's (PEI) aquaculture industry is spreading.

The Department of Fisheries and Oceans says Vase tunicate has now been found in Charlottetown Harbour, the West River and Nine Mile Creek. The pest has been causing problems in eastern PEI for several years.

About three dozen growers may be affected.
