Australian quarantine of Vietnamese shrimp causes outcry

The Sai Gon Giai Phong daily said Australia now required fresh and frozen shrimp to be certified as being free from white spot, yellow head, taura, virus, and red eus.

They also asked the head and body of shrimps to be separated for quarantine.

Nguyen Tu Cuong, head of the National Fisheries Quality Assurance and Veterinary Directorate, said the new regulation was unreasonable since none of the above diseases had ever been found in Vietnamese shrimp.

The additional cost would affect the shrimp industry, he said.
