US - The Florida Wildlife Foundation is in talks with a Pine Island resident to acquire a 100-acre piece of property for a fish hatchery."We don’t really have anything this far down south, so it would be really nice to find a piece of property," said Brett Boston, executive director of the foundation.
Boston said the hatchery has an early layout design concept but the plan is still in its preliminary stages.
The property is a few miles down Stringfellow Road south from the intersection at Pine Island Road NW, next to the aquaculture farm on the north side of the St. John’s Episcopal Church at 7771 Stringfellow Rd.
The investment could be up to $25 million and produce at least a million game fish.
