Print This Page B.C. algae bloom kills 260 tonnes of farmed salmon
CANADA - A salmon farm near the central coast village of Klemtu experienced two algae blooms during the summer, the most recent of which killed hundreds of tonnes of farmed Atlantic salmonThe Localsh Bay farm site, one of about 35 sites operated by Marine Harvest Canada, was hit by the second bloom two weeks ago.
"We haven't seen algae blooms in Klemtu, so it was unusual for us to have this occur up there," said Clare Backman, Marine Harvest Canada1s director of community relations and environmental compliance.
